I may be late to the party on this, but have you heard of Gotye? It's pronounced (go-tee-yay) like Jean Paul Gaultier, the fashion designer. My friend Aaron turned me on to him & I just bought the album. Gotye is Wouter "Wally" De Backer. He's a singer-songwriter from Australia. I haven't listened to the whole album yet, but I've been hearing the song "Somebody That I Used To Know" on KEXP & I'm OBSESSED with that song. Seriously, I listened to it on repeat all the way to work yesterday. Obsessed!
Shockingly, John likes him, too. Ya'll, John & I liking the same band at the same time happens less often than a total eclipse, so this is big. John says he reminds him of Sting. I say Yeasayer. John's probably right.
Here is the video for "Somebody That I Used To Know". It's possibly not safe for work, depending on who can see your monitor. They never actually show anything, but it looks like they're going to. Stick with it, the song really picks up around minute 3:00. And if there's anything I like more than hand claps & high hats, it's a background vocal. I love this song!
The entire album is only $7.99 on Amazon. I highly recommend buying it. And then painting your entire body.

He reminds me of Sting too! I was also obsessed with this song for a week straight and woke up with it stuck in my head and played it incessantly on repeat. Have you heard the very cool cover: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9NF2edxy-M
I don't love the rest of the album as much as I love this song, about mid-way through he starts going in all kinds of directions, but this song alone makes it worthwhile.
Jason is obsessed with this song like whoa. Also, have you seen this brilliant cover? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9NF2edxy-M
I agree with John and that he sounds more like Sting. SO I am still confused about the pronunciation of his name. In the about section on his website he says it is "gore-ti-yeah" as does Pitchfork...
I love Goyte! His show in Denver sold out before I could get tickets, but definitely next trip. You might also like "Hearts a Mess." - W.C.
YES! And I think the music reviewer on CBS Sunday Morning praised him several months ago, too. I know I saw a glowing rec somewhere.
OMG, Nichole & Christina -- now I'm obsessed with that Walk Off The Earth cover. OMG! Is it better? It's almost better. !!!
Sarah: I actually have no idea how you pronounce his name. I stole that pronunciation from Wikipedia. If you figure it out, let me know!
Katy: noted, thanks!
MK: CBS Sunday Morning, of course! They're so ahead of the curve.
Oh, ha, I'm a big dork; didn't see Nicole already posted about that. Whoops. Glad you liked it though!
No prob! Actually, it's funny, now when I hear the Gotye song, I envision the video from the cover band!
