My Review

According to Goodreads, I started reading this book on Sept. 6th, which was almost two months ago.  I'm a fast reader, so two months is a long time for me.  For the past few weeks, I've been trying to plow through it just to be done, but I've had a hard time reading this book for large chunks of time because IT'S SO SLOW.  A few thoughts:
  • Dragonfly picks up where Outlander left off, kind of...
  • The majority of the book is set in France & deals with 200-year old European politics that I have little to no prior knowledge of & honestly don't care much about.
  • A lot of the things I loved about Outlander are missing from Dragonfly, e.g. explicit Highland sex scenes (I'm sorry, but you all KNOW it's true).
  • My thoughts on Jamie Fraser being the best thing to happen to leading literary men since Mr. Darcy still holds true.  Almost every page finds Jamie farming, fighting, riding, or rescuing.  It's hot.

My Final Thoughts

Overall, I didn't hate this book, but I didn't love it either, especially in comparison to how much I enjoyed reading Outlander.  I'm on the fence as to whether or not I'll continue reading the series.  If I'm going to spend two months reading a book, I want to love it when I'm done.  For those of you who have read the rest of the series, does it get better?  Is this the worst/slowest one?  Maybe I just need to take a break & pick up Voyager in a few months.  Anyway, three stars.  Meh.

It is a long book! Congratulations on finishing! I would say the other books are even slower. If you're a fan of historical fiction, you will like them. But if you're not really into it, you might find the other books a bit dry. Lots of "daily life" chapters.
