Last weekend I turned one of the upstairs bedrooms into a reading room. Initially it was kind of an office, except that no one ever went up there or used it, especially since I bought a Macbook a few months ago & sold my old Mac Mini. I've had these two pieces of furniture for years, a matching loveseat & chaise. I put them both up on Craigslist, but was only able to sell the chaise. Even though the loveseat totally isn't our style, I decided to move it upstairs so I'd have somewhere comfortable to sit & read. I moved the crappy, old desk out & moved the loveseat in. Even though I don't love the loveseat, I kind of love my new room.
It still needs work, obviously. Number one, I need a rug. But at least the room has a purpose now.

i don't think i've ever expressed my jealousy over your built in bookshelves. i am jealous. media storage has always been the bane of my existence and i think a roomful of shelves in the only solution. you're lucky! the room's lookin' great!
BUT IS'S GREeeEN, AND IT AIN'T THAT GOOD ANYWAYS.... LOLOL
To explain my mom's comment, when I was trying to sell the loveseat & chaise on Craigslist, a lady, & I use the term "lady" loosely, & her daughter came to look at the furniture. The listing described the furniture as green, but the woman seemed incredulous that it was in fact green. In addition, "it ain't even that nice."
I did not sell them the furniture. Thus, the reading room.
Love it Kim!!! I have a room I want to turn into a reading room. It needs a lot of work though & I can't seem to get motivated. Maybe your pics will help me get inspired! Oh and the craigslist lady sounds hilarious!! Oh man.
You fill me up with house envy.
