Birchbox Review: July

I loved last month's Birchbox!  I also love that all of my friends hated their lipsticks & gave them to me.  Now I have ALL the lipstick!  Here's what I got.

Caldrea
Body Lotion | Full-size, $22
Fast-absorbing lotions in three ethereal scents:  Tea Olive Lime, Aloe Water Apricot, & Coconut Fig.

My Review:  I got the Coconut Fig scent & LOVE it!  It smells soooo good!  I'm totally buying this.

I.C.O.N.
INDIA Oil | Full-size, $40
An aromatic blend of argan & other nourishing oils that strengthens & silkifies strands.

My Review:  I've never used hair oil.  I've been meaning to for years, but just never jumped on the Moroccan oil train.  I used this so I could review it.  I'm not sure I used it correctly.  I put it on my ends after blowing out & straightening my hair.  It smells okay, it's pretty earthy.  I guess I was supposed to use a styling product over it because, while my hair was soft, it was also frizzy & poufy.  It's probably a fine product.  I just don't know how to use it.  Also, if I were going to buy a hair oil, I'd probably buy one that smells better.  If, like me, you use a lot of Oribe hair products, this isn't going to be your scent.

ModelCo
Party Proof Lipstick | Full-size, $19
Long-lasting, non-drying pigment that won't come off on your drink (or significant other).

My Review:  I'm a little surprised at how much I like this lipstick.  When I got it, I thought, well, this is going to be stupid.  But I actually love it.  I've worn it almost every day since I got it.  The color I got is Peony.

  • Skin lips side note:  One of my friends (Heidi, I think-?) didn't like her color & gave it to me.  It was one of the nude colors.  It didn't look great on me either, so I gave it to my friend Freya, with the description, "I can't wear this, it looks like skin lips."  What I meant was, it makes my lips the same shade as the rest of my face.  What Freya thought was, well, not what I thought.  But the nude color looks great on Freya, so it's a win.

Dr. Jart+
Ceramidin Cream | Full-size, $48
Birchbox exclusive that repairs skin damage & provides hydration for up to 26 hours.

My Review:  I actually really like this.  I've been using it as my nighttime facial moisturizer.  It's meant for people with sensitive, dry skin, who also struggle with eczema & redness.  I have all of those things (except eczema).  I currently use Olay Regenerist Night Recovery Cream, which is around $18.  A) I'm not sure I want to make the jump from $18 to $48 (plus shipping).  B) I like my facial products to have some kind of anti-aging treatment &, as far as I can tell, Dr. Jart doesn't.  Maybe I'll splurge on this in the winter months when I really struggle with dry, red skin.  Hmm...

BEAUTY EXTRA

Birchbox
Bobby Pins | Set of Six, $5
We designed these patterned pins to add style to summer hair with minimal effort.

My Review:  Oh my god, these suck.  First of all, they're big enough to be barrettes, not bobby pins.  Secondly, they will pull all of your hair out.  No.

1) I can't remember if I already told you that I got that Caldrea lotion once before, and that the other two scents are amazing as well! The other two scents were also a little thicker, while the coconut one seemed to be milkier/less viscous. 2) I got the Nude lipstick. I def know what you mean about "skin lips," while I do like the sheen and feel of it, I think that the Peony color might have been a better match for my skin. 3) I also received Dr. Jart Ceramidin in last month's box and also really loved the way that my skin felt each morning. Then I put two & two together and realized that the CeraVe my derm suggested to me for my sensitive, red, rosacea'd skin has the same ceramides in it, and only costs $14 from WalMart. I felt like I'd solved a great mystery. So if you are considering it for winter, try the CeraVe first. 4) You are right on about those bobby pins. I think that they're really cute, but my hair is too fine to sustain the injuries that taking them out inflicts.
