I just realized I didn't take any pics of the front porch after I put the furniture on it. I'll take some more "after" pics this weekend of both the front porch & the guest room.
Sat. my friend Jaime & her new baby, Evie, came over & met Linda, then we went down the street to Blue Coast Burrito & had lunch. It was interesting to see her with a baby. Jaime & I are the same age & lead fairly similar lives. I have zero interest in reproducing, but seeing & talking to her made me think I could do it, IF I ever wanted to.
Sat. afternoon John & I did a bunch of house & yard stuff. I have this small glass table & chairs that I spray painted pale pink back in my shabby chic phase & have not known what to do with them since we bought the house. I thought about putting them on Craigslist, but for whatever reason, on Sat., I decided to spray paint them black & put them on the front porch. They look really good! I took pictures, but I forgot to download them, so they'll be coming later.
We also have this big wooden mirror that used to be in John's apartment that we didn't know what to do with. Carolyn suggested we paint it white & hang it in the guest room. She was totally right! John got it painted, but we haven't hung it yet because we didn't buy enough hardware.
We also did some stuff in the yard. John cut the grass, planted our new rose bush & re-potted my house plants into their new Ikea pots. I love those pots. I wish I had bought more.
Sat. night Jon & Ali came over to meet Linda, then we had a late dinner at the West Side Las Maracas. We were all exhausted. After dinner, John & I went straight to bed.
Yesterday I had brunch with Natalie at Mitchell's Deli, then we stopped by the Walden Artisan Market to see Carolyn. I needed to study for my final, but I somehow managed to go all day without cracking a book. It was too pretty outside to study. Plus, I'm pretty sure I can fail the final & still pass the class...
Today I've got lunch plans with my friend Jaime. She had a baby in March & today will be my first meeting with little Evie. When I get back, John & I are going to do some yard work. John has to cut the grass & I need to move my plants into the new Ikea pots I bought last weekend. We also need to plant the rose bush I confiscated from work.
Well, I feel a little better since my last post. Apparently I just needed sleep. Spending 3 nights locked in the kitchen has taught Linda to quit waking me up in the middle of the night. Thankfully she's a fast learner. She's also quite the sun bather. Since it's gotten warm, we can't get her to come in the house. She loves laying in the back yard & sunning for herself for hours on end. Seriously, she's been out there for 2 hours already this morning. I hope she's wearing sunscreen....
Not sure what we're doing tonight. Hopefully it involves eating/drinking outside. Tomorrow John is working & I'm going to brunch with Natalie @ Marche, then we're going to the Walden Artisan Market. At some point between now & then, I've got to study for my final on Tuesday. After my final, I'm class free until June 1st. Then summer school hell begins again. December 2010 can't get here soon enough....
Nesting 1: to build or occupy a nest : settle in or as if in a nest 2: to fit compactly together or within one another
I don't know if I'm nesting or if I'm just tired. Lately all I want to do is come home from work & hang out with John & Linda. This is partly due to how busy work is right now & partly due to it being the time of year when people don't go out much. Even on the weekends, if nothing's going on, we stay in, cook & watch a movie. We usually go to Mexican with Carolyn & David on Fri. nights, but other than that, we're doing a whole lot of nothing. I have a lot of friends I'd like to see more of, but it's just not happening right now. I can't really do weeknights, so I'm missing out on some stuff there, other than that, I don't know. John & I would both like to start having people over, but we have yet to actually invite anyone to our house. I'd like to get the house a little more together, plus I'm not exactly the world's best cook.
There's no real point to this post, I'm just having a weird day. I'd like to lose weight, but I can't seem to make myself work-out or eat better. I'd like some cute, new spring clothes, but I feel like nothing will fit, plus money is tight. I've got a hair appt tomorrow & can't decide if I should keep growing my bangs out or cut them back in. I'm tired of my make-up. Yesterday was "Administrative Professionals Day" & I got zero acknowledge from my boss even though I work my ass off for him. Linda has spent the last 3 nights sleeping in the kitchen because she keeps waking me up in the middle of the night to pet her. Maybe that's it; maybe I just need a good night's sleep. I'll report back tomorrow.
Oh, totally unrelated, but I sold the bedding set, so ignore the 'for sale' post.
I took some pics of our Ikea purchases. We still have to hang the 2 shelves we bought for downstairs & I still need to put plants/flowers in the cute, white pots I bought, but here are some pics of Stave & the new bedding for the guest room. We were tired & re-hung the pictures in the living room too high, but I'll fix them this weekend. I also need to jazz up the guest room with throw pillows, etc., but I'm pleased. Full photostream here.
So in Linda's quest for constant petting, she has realized that coming upstairs in the middle of the night & whining beside the bed will result in a good bit of attention. She did this for the first time on Mon. night. She woke me up at 4:30am coughing & whining. I panicked because she never comes upstairs, especially at 4:30am. Turned out she had peed in the guest room & needed to be let outside. Well, last night she did the same thing, sans peeing in the guest room. She woke me up around 1:30am whining beside the bed. I got up to see if she had peed anywhere & she hadn't, which led me to believe she just wanted to be petted. Ding, ding! I ended up moving all of her stuff into the kitchen & closing her in there for the rest of the night. Hopefully this did the trick. If she wakes me up again tonight, we're going to have words, or barks, whatever.
On Saturday, Carolyn & I drove down to Atlanta to go to Ikea. We planned on being there a couple of hours & being back home around 8:00pm. Ha! We were in Ikea for what felt like a million years & didn't roll back into Nashville until midnight. But... we did get some pretty awesome (& much needed) loot. The star purchase of the trip is this mirror I bought to go over our couch in the living room. The mirror is cool, but it's the name that wins the prize: Stave, pronounced like a really southern gay guy would say "Steve." We worked "Stave" into so many sentences & conversations, it was ridiculous. On the way home, every bad driver was Stave. When the GPS on Carolyn's phone got us lost, it was Stave's fault. I'm going to let it go because there's no way reading it is as funny as hearing it, but trust me, it was really funny.
So because I don't have a lot of time/energy to work out right now, I've been trying to really watch what I eat. I started using this website Panda Parables suggested called MyDailyPlate. It's similar to Weight Watchers in that you log in everything you eat & it tracks the calories for you. It's actually very easy (& free), but I'm having some trouble with it. Most everything I eat is in their database, but when I eat something not in there, it gets complicated. There's a way to go in & enter generic calories for things, but it's time consuming & it's really all I can do to enter in what I eat when it is in the database. So basically, I'm half-assing it. Whatever, it still keeps me a lot more accountable than I usually am.
My problem is lunch. I end up eating out for lunch pretty much every day. Not only can I not afford this, it's making me fat. We don't have break rooms in our building. Random people have microwaves in their offices & I use those sometimes, but it's kind of a pain in the ass to hang out in someone's office while you're using their microwave, then you have to walk back to your office & eat at your desk with people sitting in front of you waiting to see your boss. It sucks. Plus, I hate Lean Cuisines. I buy them because they're easy, but I over-eat on the days I have them for lunch because it's just not enough food. I end up snacking more & eating more for dinner. I've thought about bringing something that doesn't have to be heated, but I'm not a huge sandwich fan, plus I don't have a lot of time in the morning to get something together.
This is really just a problem while we're in Session. When we're not in Session, I usually go home & eat. Plus, no one's here when we're not in Session, so it's no big deal to eat at your desk. We'll probably be in Session until early June, so I don't have too much longer. If any of you have healthy, non-Lean Cuisine lunch suggestions, please pass them on.

This weekend my grandparents were in town from Oklahoma. They braved the severe weather & came up on Friday to visit & see our house. When my dad realized we had a Wii, the visit quickly turned into a Wii boxing battle of the fittest. I am unusually good at Wii boxing. My dad put up a good fight, but I remain undefeated. Actually, I take that back, I think my mom beat me. Yeah, I think she did. Anyway, full Wii photostream here:
Monday was a dark day. I had a rough morning, got to work late & ended up being there until after 8:00pm. I was exhausted, but things started looking up once I got home. Disclaimer: I have THE BEST mom & husband. My mom had left Linda a belated Easter present in the garage. It was a really nice photo album & a cute dog bowl with a dog painted on it that looks just like Linda. Then on top of that, John had made dinner while I was at work & had it ready for me when I walked in the door. John has never made me dinner. He's certainly helped with dinner & lately he's been cooking a lot, but this is the first time I've come home to a cooked meal. Go, John!
I watched Southland today on TiVo. Did anyone else watch it? I really liked it. I love Benjamin McKenzie & I'm glad to see him in something sans The O.C. (RIP). Tiffany, if you're reading, I think you'd really like this show. Best part? They played "Fake Empire" by The National at the end of the show. Benjamin McKenzie & The National, what's not to love?
Speaking of TV, I also watched this week's episode of The Real Housewives of NYC today. God, I love that show. Jill is my favorite with Bethenny coming in at a close second. I hate the new one, Kelly & I'm really starting to hate Luann. Does anyone else think she's a lot worse this season than last? When she told that little girl who wants to be a model that she's got plenty of time to grow & lose weight?! Seriously. Who says that to children, fat or not? And what's with Kelly's shiny face? Kelly, it's called powder, look into it. Oh, and p.s. you're too old to wear dresses/skirts/shorts that short. I don't care how fit you are, cover it up. You've got young daughters for god's sake.
Last week on SNL, this band Phoenix played. I really liked them & thought they sounded familiar, but couldn't figure out where I had heard them. Today I got on iTunes & downloaded their new EP, Wolfgang Amadeus, plus a couple other songs.
Sidenote: the full album comes out in late May.
So driving around today, I set my iPod to Phoenix to listen to the songs I downloaded this morning. I already had 2 of the songs on my iPod, thus solving the mystery of why they sounded familiar. One song, "Too Young" is on the Lost in Translation soundtrack & another song "Everything is Everything" I had from some weird sample CD. So basically I paid to download 2 songs that I already had. Oh well. My favorite song off the new EP is "Lisztomania" followed by "1901". I'm also really into "Too Young", which is from an older album. If you haven't heard them, I highly recommend them.
Okay, I just did a Youtube search for "Lisztomania" & found this totally awesome video. Enjoy.
P. S. Delaney, how have I never noticed how much you look like Molly Ringwald?!
1) No more weekly papers! I just found out our teacher is dropping our 2 lowest grades, so if we're happy with our current grade in the class, we don't have to do the last 2 papers. Yes! I still have a final to study for, but thank god these f*cking papers are over!
2) I bought the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album, It's Blitz!. I love it, especially track 4, "Skeletons." John showed me this video last night, it's pretty cool. I can't wait to see them on SNL Saturday night!
Long time, no blog. Sorry, April & May tend to be my busiest months at work, so I'm falling a little behind. Without further ado, the weekend wrap-up:
Friday night
John had to work, so I watched the series finale of ER, cried, ate dinner, then watched The Constant Gardener on DVD. I liked it, but I like both Ralph Fiennes & Rachel Weisz, so I may be a little bias.
Saturday
Yard work. John cut the grass while I pulled weeds & trimmed the hedges. Discovered reptile, possibly a komodo dragon, living in the hedges & promptly put up my shears & went back inside to troll Facebook.
Saturday night
Met Carolyn & David at Cinco & got inexplicably drunk. Wondering if someone "roophied" our pitcher..... Vaguely remember talking about baby arms, hammer toes & coal mining....
Sunday
Day of errands -Big Lots, Target, Lowe's & Trader Joe's. Came home & cleaned the house while John built an extension of our rock wall to keep Linda from escaping the back yard. John made thai stir-fry, then we watched Tropic Thunder on DVD. OMG, why did we never see this movie? So funny!
